School Life
A glimpse into the activities, events and experiences that make Bocskai Hungarian School special.
Life at Bocskai School
Beyond the classroom, school life at Bocskai is full of memorable experiences — cultural celebrations, excursions, competitions and community events that bring students and families together.
Cultural Celebrations
We celebrate major Hungarian cultural events throughout the year — including National Day, Easter traditions, the Harvest Festival, and St Nicholas Day. Students learn the significance of these celebrations through song, craft and storytelling.
Camping Excursions
Our annual camping trips are a highlight of the school calendar. Students bond with classmates, sing Hungarian folk songs around the campfire and build lasting friendships in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Bookworm Competition
Our popular bookworm reading competition encourages students to read as many Hungarian books as possible. Students earn recognition and prizes for their reading achievements across the year.
Performances & Concerts
Students regularly perform for parents and the broader community — reciting poems, performing Hungarian folk dances and singing traditional songs at end-of-year concerts and community events.
Special Guests & Visits
We have hosted distinguished guests including the Hungarian President and various cultural dignitaries, giving students an inspiring connection to Hungary and the broader Hungarian-Australian community.
Arts & Crafts
Hungarian folk art traditions — including embroidery patterns, painted eggs, paper cutting and pottery — are woven throughout our curriculum, connecting students to centuries of cultural heritage.
Melbourne-i Könyvmolyok — Book Worm Competition 2023
On 7 October 2023, nearly 40 young readers and their families gathered for our annual book-reading competition. Students completed reading comprehension tasks and showcased creative projects inspired by Hungarian children's books — a joyful celebration of language and imagination.
